Founder and CEO · Altimeter Capital

Founded Altimeter Capital (2008); $30B+ AUM across public growth tech and venture; early investor in Snowflake, Roblox, Cloudflare; open letter to Meta (2022) calling for headcount cuts contributed to $80B market cap recovery.

Brad Gerstner studied political science at Indiana University and earned his JD from Indiana University School of Law. He co-founded Pricemaster.com and served as CEO of a travel company before founding Altimeter Capital in 2008. Altimeter pioneered a hybrid investment approach — combining public growth equity investing in technology companies with direct venture investments in private companies. This allows Altimeter to invest in companies throughout their lifecycle, from early venture rounds through public markets. Altimeter became known for early investments in companies that subsequently went public, including Snowflake, Cloudflare, Roblox, and Grab. Gerstner gained extraordinary prominence in 2022 when he published an open letter to Meta's board and Mark Zuckerberg calling for significant headcount reductions, lower capital expenditure, and a narrower strategic focus. The letter was widely discussed on Wall Street and is credited with helping catalyse Meta's subsequent restructuring — which included major layoffs, spending discipline, and a refocusing on core social media and advertising. Meta's stock subsequently recovered significantly, delivering large gains for Altimeter. Gerstner is known for his accessible communication about technology investing through social media and podcasts.
