Led engineering and release management for Cosmos SDK and the IBC protocol that transformed isolated sovereign chains into an interoperable interchain — enabling Osmosis, dYdX, and 100+ projects to transfer assets across blockchain boundaries.
The practical availability of IBC transformed the Cosmos ecosystem from a collection of isolated chains into an interoperable network, enabling projects like Osmosis, Gravity Bridge, and dozens of DeFi protocols to exchange tokens cross-chain. Zhong's background spans engineering and product management in both traditional software and blockchain contexts. His operational role at Tendermint involved coordinating the release process for Cosmos SDK modules, maintaining developer documentation, managing the validator community communications, and overseeing the tooling ecosystem that supported chain launches built on the Cosmos stack. The technical infrastructure Zhong's team maintained — including Starport (now Ignite CLI) for chain scaffolding, Cosmos SDK governance modules, and IBC implementation — became the foundation for some of the most active blockchain ecosystems in terms of on-chain volume and cross-chain transaction flow.
